15 Hours or 30 Hours Funding for 3 or 4 Year Olds

Government funding for three year old children can be used at Key Steps. It means that each child is entitled to a total of 15 funded hours per week (570 hours per year) or 30 funded hours per week (1,140 hours per year) - dependant on circumstances. To keep your payments to an equal monthly fee throughout the year, we ‘stretch’ this funding over the 51 weeks per year that we are open and therefore you don’t receive a higher bill outside of term time.

Children are entitled to this funding the term after they turn 3 years old age. Their birthday must fall before the cut-off date in order to receive the funding the following term. These dates are:

31st August for the Autumn term (September – December)
31st December for the Spring term (January – April)
31st March for the Summer term (May – August)
Every family’s different, so whatever your childcare needs, come and talk to us. We’ll help you understand how the scheme works and put together a package that makes life easier, and more affordable.

What’s the difference between the 15 hour scheme and the 30 hour scheme?

All families with 3 and 4 year olds automatically get 15 hours of funded childcare per week. That’s a universal scheme, so everyone can benefit, whether they’re working or not. The 30 hour scheme is just for working families, and it increases funding from 15 to 30 hours.

15 hours funding for 2 year olds

You could get 15 hours of free childcare each week (570 per year) if you have a child who has or is turning two-years old and you qualify for one of the following:

A household income of less than £16,190 per year
Employment and Support Allowance
Job Seeker's Allowance
Income Support

Tax free Childcare

The tax-free childcare initiative is actually an online savings account that enables working parents to save up funds for childcare. It is considered tax-free because for every £8 paid into the account, parents get a £2 top-up from the government, equivalent to 25% extra. The government will pay a maximum of £2,000 in any one year, meaning that under the scheme, annual childcare costs of £10,000 would cost £8,000 to parents. For disabled children, the figure rises to £4,000.

Childcare vouchers

We accept all childcare vouchers. Unfortunately, the Government closed the Childcare Vouchers scheme to new entrants on 4th October 2018. This means that if you’re a parent looking to join Childcare Vouchers for the first time that option is no longer available to you. This is because the Government launched a new scheme called Tax-Free Childcare.
